Steven A Abrams

Dr Abrams is a member of the Beverage Institute for Health and Wellness, an Institute that serves in an advisory capacity for the Coca-Cola Company on matters of science, nutrition, and health.
Dr Abrams is a consultant for Martek Biosciences Corporation related to the use of its products in human nutrition.
Dr Abrams receives speaking fees from Abbott Laboratories' Ross Products Division for lectures related to feeding premature infants.
Dr Abrams, as a scientific investigator, receives funds from Bristol-Myers Squibb (Mead-Johnson Nutritionals) for research studies involving infant nutrition.
Dr Abrams is a member of the Advisory Board for the Milk Processors Educational Program (MilkPEP), serving in an advisory capacity related to matters of science, nutrition, and health.
Dr Abrams is a nutritional consultant for Group Danone.


David H Alpers

Dr Alpers is an "in-house" Senior Medical Consultant for R&D for GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK) and spends half of his time in this capacity. In their pharmaceutical division, GSK has no nutrition-related products. Dr Alpers also consults for GSK Consumer Health on an ad-hoc basis.
Dr Alpers is on the Scientific Advisory Board for Trinity, Inc, a biotech company.
Dr Alpers is the Co-Editor of the Small Intestine and Nutrition sections of Current Opinion in Gastroenterology.


Dennis M Bier

Dr Bier is a member of the ConAgra Foods Scientific Advisory Board whose function is to provide guidance to the company on matters of science, nutrition, and health. His honorarium is donated to charity.
Dr Bier is a member of the Mars Scientific Advisory Council that provides scientific advice to the company on advances, opportunities, and barriers to progress in human and animal health and nutrition research, plant sciences and sustainability, and other relevant areas of research. His honorarium is donated to charity.
Dr Bier is a member of the McDonald’s Global Advisory Council. In this role, he advises McDonald’s on issues of nutrition science and well-being. He accepts no compensation for his participation in the Council.
Dr Bier is Chairman of the Board of the International Life Sciences Institute Research Foundation, a public, non-profit scientific foundation. The Foundation supports basic and applied research programs, professional education forums, and publications that relate to food and nutrition and to critical scientific issues in health promotion and risk assessment. The Foundation’s activities are supported by both public and industry funds. Dr Bier receives no compensation for his Board activities.
Dr Bier is an advisor to the International Council on Amino Acid Science, whose members include companies that produce and market amino acids for medical, biological, and industrial purposes. Dr Bier provides the Council with advice on scientific priorities, assistance in organizing scientific symposia on amino acids, and evaluation of competitive applications for research funding. He accepts no compensation for these advisory roles.

David M Klurfeld

Dr Klurfeld is a member of the Unilever North America Scientific Advisory Board whose function is to provide guidance to the company on matters of science, nutrition, and health.
Dr Klurfeld is a nutrition consultant to Dyets, Inc, a manufacturer of diets for laboratory animals.
Dr Klurfeld is a member of the American Council on Science and Health Board of Scientific and Policy Advisors whose function is to provide advice and review of statements developed by the organization. This is a noncompensated position.


Eric B Rimm

Dr Rimm, as an investigator, receives research funds from GlaxoSmithKline and Merck Research Laboratories for the investigation of nonnutritional biomarkers of cardiovascular disease.
Dr Rimm has received speaking fees from the Culinary Institute of America and the International Corporate Chefs Association.


Frank M Sacks

Dr Sacks does not have financial relations (consulting, speaking fees, or research grants) with the food industry.
Dr Sacks has financial relations with pharmaceutical companies regarding drugs and devices to treat hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis. He serves as a consultant for Abbott Laboratories; Aegerion Pharmaceuticals, Inc; Eli Lilly and Co; Genzyme; ISIS; Lipid Sciences, Inc; Merck; and Solvay SA. He holds stock in Lipid Sciences, Inc. He has a research contract with ISIS.
