Nonspecific protective substances of serum have been reported to be depressed in protein deficiency. The present paper describes an in vitro model to restore to the normal the deficient bactericidal activity of serum in kwashiorkor children. The results indicate that normal serum added to protein deficient serum in the ratio 1:0.4(P:N) is effective to revert the bactericidal capacity of deficient sera whether the organisms are present per se or not.
