An enzymatic measurement of the riboflavin status in man

A 12-week study evaluated the activity coefficient of erythrocyte glutathione reductase and urinary riboflavin as a measure of the riboflavin status in man during the partial riboflavin depletion and subsequent repletion of six male volunteers. The AC of EGR is a sensitive measurement of the riboflavin metabolic status in humans. The enzymatic method evaluates the metabolic utilization of the dietary riboflavin. Urinary riboflavin reflected recent dietary riboflavin. Further, it did not measure the severity of the vitamin deficiency in the absence of clinical parameters. Utilization of riboflavin was not affected by the level of dietary protein.
