Availability in man of protein and minerals from fish protein concentrate

1) Studies were performed under strictly controlled dietary conditions on the availability of nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus from fish protein concentate (FPC) in adult man.

2) During the substitution of 37% of the dietary protein intake by protein given as FPC, the urinary and fecal excretions of nitrogen, phosphorus, and calcium were similar to the corresponding excretion values of the control study. The balances of these elements were also similar in the two study phases. These data indicate the ready availability of protein, calcium, and phosphorus from FPC in man.

3) The FPC-supplemented diet was well tolerated and the body weight of the patients was similar during the intake of FPC and in the control study.
